The ‘I want an Ezria relationship’ problem with PLL fans

Contrary to the notes when hovering the name, it should be known that the “Ezra” I’m discussing in this post is not my brother Ezra.

If you haven’t caught up on Pretty Little Liars yet, you probably don’t want to read this post. #spoileralert

If you have, and you’re an #Ezria fan, you’re probably going to get mad.

If you fit the previous statement (you’re an #Ezria fan and have caught up on the series) and you’re either below eighteen or going to make ill assumptions about me or this post rather than be willing to carry a mature debate about the matter, GTFO. 🙂

The majority of YouTube users who comment on the videos consist of either crazed fans, below eighteen fans or all of the above. There’s also the use of “your” instead “you’re”, “bare” instead of “bear”, “their” and “they’re” and “there” instead of the accurate one, and so on. It’s really annoying. If I take this to Tumblr, I have below eighteen year olds coming at me with ridiculously redundant arguments on the verge of ignorance[1. “Ignorance” means “without knowledge”, and I do use the word accordingly.], which is quite unfortunate considering they really believe Aria and Ezra make a healthy relationship.

Ezra’s a bad, abusive boyfriend, and the relationship continuing the way it has (or maybe even at all) sends out a bad message to a lot of the people who watch the show (i.e. the high school students, etc.). (I’m not the only one who thinks this.)

Even though Ezra [presumably] isn’t A, he still portrayed many qualities similar to that of Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga[2. …if you’re a fan of him as well, you should probably move on.] — they’re both liars, controlling, possible stalkers, etc.

  • Lying: Where they’re going, why they’re going there, exactly what they’re doing.
  • Controlling: I think I notice this more because I have experience with it, but both characters have controlled their love interests through lying, manipulation, and psychological abuse. …we are also still unaware of  who put all those knives in Jake’s bag. Edward was controlling by not wanting Bella to hang out with Jake[3. Ohey! The middle men even come with the same names!].
  • Stalking: Ezra’s stalked the girls constantly, as well as invaded their privacy. Edward also stalked Bella, but he’s just in here to further prove how entertainment these days is giving girls the impression that abusive relationships are okay.

The obvious signs of abuse portrayed throughout the series (signs courtesy of the National Domestic Violence hotline):

  • Control what you do, who you see or talk to or where you go?
  • Keeping you or discouraging you from seeing friends or family members
  • Destroying your property or threatening to hurt or kill your pets
  • Looking at you or acting in ways that scare you
  • Controlling who you see, where you go, or what you do
  • Preventing you from making your own decisions
  • Make all of the decisions

According to The Hotline, even one “yes” to any of their questions/list can be abuse.

Minus the student-teacher factor of the relationship, the Ezria ship had its ups, but there were more downs and a lot of lying.

If something doesn’t change in their relationship soon and Ezra continues to be an angry, controlling and manipulating person, I’m really going to be done with the ‘ship and possibly, the show. It’s not healthy, but it has great potential to be.

…Paige and Emily are an entirely different post, but Paige annoys me too much, and I’m so ready for her to go. >.>

#thishasbeenanotherfangirlpost

P.S. This is mostly an unorganized rant. I developed a headache midway and called it “finished” (not quits).
I didn’t know what to title this, so meh. 😐

[…] a half). Ezra is different and pretty unique. When I heard of it, I instantly thought of Pretty Little Liars, even though I’ve not watched the series in so […]

I disagree. While I don’t find them exactly ‘healthy’, I can’t say I find any of the relationships on PLL healthy. They all have their messed up love stories. But your reasons as to how Ezra is ‘abusive’ only really reflects around 4B, during the time the writers wanted you to believe he was A. And if you’re a constant PLL watcher, you’d know the writers are incredibly sloppy and write characters way of character when they want to throw you off. Has Ezra lied? Well, yes, obviously. This show is called Pretty Little Liars. People obviously are going to lie on this show. I don’t know if you’re aware of the interviews that came out from the main writer who clarified everything Ezra was doing. He wasn’t just ‘stalking’ the girls to be weird and write his book, Marlene King (writer) confirmed he hired private investigators to help protect the girls and so Ezra could find out who A was before A hurt Aria + the girls (explains the cameras, and who was sending him pictures in 418). It was also confirmed he did NOT put knifes in Jake’s punching bad, nor did he have anything to do with it. It was said when he originally started writing the book again, he found out about A (in S4), and once he did, he became more obsessed with just trying to find out who it was before they could hurt the PLLs.

If you watch Ezria scenes prior to 4B, you see the real way on how Ezra always treated Aria. With respect. He never pushed her into anything, he never tried to separate her from anybody. I didn’t make this, but an Ezria fan did, and it’s worth looking at: https://fitzandmontgomery.tumblr.com/post/77724300186/here-in-this-gifset-we-see-ezra-treating-aria-the

I’m an avid PLL watcher.

While there are some protective sides to it, there are a lot of signs of an abusive relationship prior to part two of season four.

The point of this entry is to stress how much Hollywood influences [mostly] girls into thinking abusive relationships are romantic. I don’t appreciate the assumptions made in this comment; it feels like this is more of an attack on my beliefs with “proof” to defend your OTP. I respect mature debates, not child’s play.

So many agrees here. Ezria only looks good to me because Lucy Hale and Ian Harding look great together. The relationship itself is completely dysfunctional and completely unhealthy, though. Although maybe it’s because they made Ezra seem completely nuts in this last season…

Yes! I love the relationship the actors have together, and sometimes it’s hard to see Ian Harding’s Ezra and that Ezra’s not Ian Harding because of that. 😡
