Love With Food: June 2016

I received the “Love is Celebration” Tasting Box this month. It only contains one food item with nuts, which is pretty good considering I was getting boxes that were more nut-based than [I felt] they should’ve been. I decided to get another box, though, just to try out where Love With Food is at right now in terms of diversity.

Love With Food 'Love is Celebration' June 2016 box

Contents

  • Sinfully Thin Blue Corn Popcorn ($0.26) — I’m surprised by how much I loved these! When I opened the package, all I could think was, “What’s so special about blue corn?” but they actually have a fluffier feel to them. The average popcorn used (there is actually corn called “popcorn” that grows) is always hard on my teeth, so I can’t enjoy it as often as I like. I’d totally be up for some blue corn popcorn! I just wish it was available for popping myself; there’s something about fresh popcorn. ?
  • Snapz Original Crunchy Premium Apple Crisps ($1.05) — So…I’m not sure about the crunchy part, as my bag consisted of a lot more chewy pieces than the crunchy, melt-in-your-mouth freeze-dried crisps I typically get. With that said, these were better than I was expecting, and I was glad to see there were more pieces in the package than most dried fruit packages.
  • Biscottea Traditional Teatime Shortbread ($0.73) — This tasted a bit like a discontinued shortbread I also discovered through Love With Food, so it was nice to have received it. I also like how the ingredients are very basic (wheat flour, sugar, butter, pure vanilla extract, baking soda, salt), because it’s closer to homemade than the preservative-stuffed baked goods in stores.
  • Torie & Howard Fruit Chews ($0.22/piece; I received 2) — Like Lovely Candy Co., these fruit chews are like healthier versions of Starburst. The flavor I received, Raspberry Lemonade, was really sour. I was disappointed, however, when I bit into it and it was like a chewy mess exploded in my mouth. These are hard on the outside, but extremely gooey on the inside. Because I have cavities and try to avoid things that can get really stuck in my teeth, I’m going to stay away from them.
  • Raw Rev Glo Creamy Peanut Butter & Sea Salt Bar ($0.80) — Obviously I did not try this because #nuts. I’ll give it to someone else to try. ^^;
  • You Love Fruit Leather (Mango) ($1.79) — I’ve been wanting to try this fruit leather brand for a while. I received one in some box some time ago, but it was coconut. In the package, it feels like it’s just one big slab of fruit leather, but I was happy to find it wasn’t like that at all. Instead, it’s small pieces wrapped up—kind of like the kiddy fruit roll-ups in stores.
  • Wild Garden Sun-Dried Tomato Hummus Dip ($0.73) — #SorryNotSorry, but I’m not super big on hummus. I like traditional bean dip—either pinto or black bean—and prefer it not to be messed with. I think I could have liked this if it didn’t have such a tang to it; it reminds me of the reason I dislike cilantro.
  • Snack Factory Original Pretzel Crisps ($0.50) — I’ve had these prefer. I kind of like them more than regular pretzel chips, because I love pretzels but struggle with how crunchy they are. These are like a combination of pretzels and chips. 🙂

Total: $6.29
Spent: $4.99 under ‘come back’ discount ($9.99 is normal monthly price)
Difference: $-1.30 under discount; $+3.70 higher than if bought items self

Notes

Love With Food donates to a food bank in America with every purchase, so depending on your personal values, paying a little more on a curated snack box for foods you might not discover yourself might be worth it and is something to consider in regards to the price.

With that said, if you purchase a yearly subscription, it’s cheaper (if I can remember correctly).

Overall thoughts

I really like how their boxes have been more diverse, of the two I’ve received since last year. I fell in love with Love With Food after Goodies.co shut down, so this subscription box kinda means a lot to me. ❤

I’m unsubscribing after this box for now, because 1) I’m subscribed to MunchPak and am gonna enjoy curated nut-free boxes for a while and 2) cannot actually afford my subscription box addiction right now.

However, if you’re up for checking it out, please use my affiliate link.

Cool, another person who orders Love With Food. I went ahead and paid a whole year because I was having to go gluten free for awhile since doctors thought I might have celiac but I don’t so back to yummy gluten! lol I have yet to try all of my box, but I know what you mean by too many nut products. Also, I never know what to do with the cooking stuff they send, like the pasta and stuff. Ha. I totally agree with you on the blue popcorn! It was so good! I was shocked. I saved the package so that I could remember the name to buy more. 🙂
