Simple Pleasures

Caity did this on her blog, so I decided to type this up and post it over Spring Break! 😉 1

What you cannot choose… The Rules are Simple:

We all know that blogging/facebook/twitter is in our arena of what we like to do, so I am going to rule them out as one of the 5 that you can post about.

If you want to pass this along, pick bloggers that you want to find out more about, and challenge them to write up their 5 secret passions that make them feel good. The idea is to lift our spirits this week. The fact that there is a linky added, just makes it all the more worthwhile in doing.

  1. Todd is my best friend. You know the saying “You don’t get to choose your family, but you can choose your friends”? I think that statement is somewhat of a lie. Todd is my best friend, but I did not choose him. I feel like a horrible person when I think of the day I picked him up. “I don’t want the one with the messed up tail,” is what I kept telling myself. Before I knew it, Harley (the lady’s son) was handing me Todd. I put a lot of effort into his name. I laughed when he fell off the bed.2 He was so adorable! Todd isn’t only my best friend; he’s my baby; he’s family.
  2. Privacy! Privacy is a big part of me. If you want me to trust you, you have to give me privacy. I didn’t have much of this growing up, so it is something I treasure as much as my life. I believe that privacy is more than meets the eye: Someone talking about you behind their back, confronting someone else about you (so that someone else can confront you), etc. are invasions of privacy. I mean, if you have a problem with me, take it up with me; don’t have someone else tell me about the problems I have with you! Make sense? This also includes guys who ask their friends to get to know me. That’s an invasion of privacy; why can’t they get to know me themselves?!
  3. Trees: I never noticed I had a love for trees until November 2009, when I moved back to this city.3 They are beautiful plants, and not two trees look alike; there is always something different! I love the way their branches look and how their leaves dance in the wind as it blows.4
  4. Mathematics. I am great at mathematics. I’m going to teach it after I finish college. I’m great at it, and it continues to challenge me. I love solving math problems. …I dislike graphing, though. -.-
  5. Helping others is something that I would love to do for the rest of my life. That’s why I want to teach. Teachers help their students strive to succeed in their schoolwork and life. High school was where I found my “true self”, if you wish to call it that. I believe that, if you give and not expect anything in return, that you will be happier than you would be if you gave and gave and gave, and then expected everything.5

608 words. I’m sorry. 🙁

If you decide to do this on your blog leave me a link, otherwise let me know in the comments what your 5 passions are!

  1. Written March 9, 2011 and scheduled to post March 15 14 13. I’m learning more WP features the more my Internet access is somewhat “limited”!
  2. When he was a kitten, he would walk along the edge of my bed. One wrong move made him fall.
  3. I also lived here in second grade. I was on the drill team!
  4. Another reason I would love to find my USB cord.
  5. Or if you merely take everything.

Sorry, but comments are closed on this post.

Wow you sound like a fantastic person. lol and smart if you like math. it will be the end off me im sure of it. I am jealous of your ability. and the fact you want to be a teacher and you love helping others that = good person.

i might try and do this on my blog, if i do i will link you.

I don’t think I’ll be doing this on my blog. I have other things to write about! But I think there’s just something lovely in taking a walk in the park, having a picnic, and going bushwalking. I love recreational activities like those kinds.

Privacy is pretty important. I don’t think I’ve ever really thought about it, but when I was younger I was scared my mum would read my diaries. We all need a sense of privacy. I actually like being alone, not necessarily in private but enjoying my own company. It’s important for me to have some of that every day.

It’s like Todd was meant to be yours. 🙂 That’s really sweet.

It’s no surprise that mathematics is on your list. :B

Thunderbird is a mail client. It’s similar to Outlook; I think it also doesn’t take that long to load. It can be set up pretty easily, not to mention it can look for the server automatically, which I don’t think Outlook can do.

Windows Vista is okay. I don’t really care, because I put in a lot of hacks anyway, so my interface looks more like a Mac. I know that 7 is better and more secure, and less vulnerable, than Vista.

Aww your siblings are cute! That reminds me of when I had food toy playsets and pretended to own a shop, much like your siblings pretended to get their own mail. :’)

I like that idea of a dice. You could give the layout a go, try and edit mine perhaps?! 😛

This is really a good reflection exercise. You get to choose 5 things, I’m glad you didn’t choose material things like I probably would (MY LAPTOP!). Material things aren’t what really matter are they? What kind of simple pleasure is Facebook? Seriously I hate that place. 😛

If I get a chance I’ll do this in my next entry.

Liz,

You did a great job with this and I loved reading about your passions, especially the teaching. With what you said, you will be a GREAT teacher. As one NOT so good at math, it’s nice to know that there will a teacher who can pass on her love of math to her students:~)

I’m not so much of a mathematic person. I’m more of a writer (I love reading and English)- even now I’m barely passing math. This is why the only AP class I have is English. Every other subject, besides Spanish, I’m getting an A. To quote what I told my math student-teacher, “It’s just not my forté.”

I remember once upon a time, my mother asked me what career do I not want to have when I grow up. Immediately, even with executioner in mind, I said “teacher”. When I’m done high school, there’s no way I’ll ever be back! And to hear the teachers complain about the principle getting on their case like THEY are the students? No way. I can’t stand kids (lol) and I certainly don’t want to deal with their whining mothers.

You and I have in common with the privacy though. 😉

“That’s life, get over it.”

Yeah, I’m pretty sure I never was “on it” to get “over it”. The reason why I brought up the teachers and the principle is because it reminds me of going back to school if a principle gets on my case about something. It’s not the idea of a boss telling their employees what to do itself. Again, it’s just not the career I’d like to take on.

Aw I love kitties. 😀 I have one of my own and one with Shawn (kinda) and they are the best!

Kudos to you for liking math. That was my worst class in school, I just couldn’t get it lol.

I can’t think of any of the top of the head at the moment. I’ll probably do something like this in the future. I have a few other things to blog about before then.

I have a big thing about privacy as well. My parents never really gave it to me when I was young. They wanted to know every little thing even if it wasn’t that important. They still ask about things I do but not as much as when I was young.

I love helping others too. Its really nice to see people smile when you’ve helped them out on something.

I think I might post something similar on my blog, with a link. I’m not sure yet. I’d go way off subject if I did most likely. And I’d have to debate with myself for ages to decide what five things I like the most in life.

Privacy is huge. I’ve been pretty lucky in terms of privacy because I’m not generally an approachable person anyway. I take privacy for granted actually. I can always get time and space to myself and my family and friends don’t invade that.

I love trees too. Whenever I got for a walk in the woods behind my house I feel like I’m in the most beautiful place on earth. I love the pattern of branches too, it’s so representative of nature.

I hate drawing graphs in maths so much. I can be whizzing through an exercise then lose the will to work completely when “draw the function…” appears.

@Aileen, I just chose a few things I felt I could go into [at least two sentences-worth of] detail about. :] I started getting privacy in late 2007, when I moved in with my dad. Since I’ve lived with my grandmother (December 2009) I’ve been able to be independent, too. <3 Awhh. I just hate drawing them! Blahh. I think it’s so you can see what it looks like. In college, you can’t use graphing calculaters, so take advantage whilst you can! (;

Thanks for the comment. 🙂 It’s a new deviantart, so there isn’t much on it. I adore this layout! It’s simple, and I love the css!

Liz’s gravatar

@Ben, thanks! 🙂 And it will fill up the more you add to it(;

I went to Sarasota Florida 🙂

Anyway – about this blog, we are so alike haha my best friend is a guy too, I love my privacy, trees (love em, I’m such a tree hugger haha) and helping people (want to be a human rights lawyer). Everything except the math… aha I’m terrible. CUTE BLOG – enjoyable read. I also like the new theme!

Liz’s gravatar

@Jaclyn, Todd’s a cat – is your best friend a cat?(; Commenting is really hard for me on my phone now, because I’ve typed what I’m trying to say since the time you left it! I can’t comment your website back, either, because the spam thing says I’m wrong every single time. 🙁 Grr. Thanks. :)| I like this theme, too! Good luck on house looking! 😀

I hope that you get to be an awesome teacher! Those are great simple pleasures to have. Unfortunately, graphing is very important in all parts of math. I hate doing graphs by hand, but I get to make computers to it for me, which is better.

Maybe you didn’t choose Todd, but you didn’t have to make him your friend. So you did choose him as a best friend!

Hi Liz, thank you for your comment! 🙂
I really like your domain name, it’s one of the first things I noticed when reading your comment… it must be because I love birds!

Liz’s gravatar

@Ilaria, You’re welcome! (: Haha. Well, I don’t love birds – I just liked the domain name! 😀

I love what you picked (especially math, hehe)! I’m glad you decided to do this on your blog! 🙂

Hey Liz! It should be working now, it wasn’t for awhile but I think the spam thingy works currently. LOL I KNOW – I was trying to make a joke, clearly I have no humour hahaha 😉 I have dogs so I understand 🙂

[…] is/are your guilty pleasures? I wrote about this, actually. I should probably update that meme, though. Perhaps next year since it was posted this year? […]
